ALTA VAN HUYSTEEN, mezzo-soprano
Alta van Huysteen joined the Pretoria Technikon Opera School as a student in January 2000 and studied under Eric Muller, after five years of private tuition at the Lorraine Havemann Studio. She won the Technikon Council Bursary as well as the bursary from the Friends of the Opera in 2000. At the end of 2001 she won the Ed Morrisson trophy and bursary as the best opera student at the Technikon. In February 2002 she received the popular Johan Botha Bursary as best opera student and later the same year she received a merit bursary from the Technikon Council. At the end of 2002 she was awarded the Pretorium Trust bursary and in 2003 the Technikon Council Merit Bursary.
