Albertus Engelbrecht grew up in the west coast region of South Africa, and received his training as a lyric tenor at the Stellenbosch Conservatoire and at the Opera School in Pretoria.  While still studying, he appeared in among other productions as Spärlich in Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor, as Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi and Alfred in Die Fledermaus.  After concluding his studies, Albertus was particularly active in oratorio.  Between 1997 and 1999 he appeared with the National Philharmonic in performances of works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Handel.  He also applies his art to the German Lied.  Albertus in many successful Schumann Lieder recitals in Johannesburg and Pretoria.  The versatile singer also attended master classes with Herman Le Roux, Gerda Hartmann, Graham Johnson and Deon van the Walt.  In December 1999 he joined the chorus of the Nürnberg Opera.  Since then he a;so appeared in solo parts, among other as Medoro in Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso and as the Tenor and Shepherd in Purcell's King Arthur..
