ANTOINETTE OLIVIER, soprano
Antoinette Olivier holds a Bmus (hons) degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. In 1987 she joined Pact Opera as company manager before joining the Opera Chorus. In 1991 she furthered her singing studies in Los Angeles, and with Emma Renzi.
Opera roles include Monica in The Medium, Anna in Nabucco, Bertha in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Javotte in Manon, Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Tosca, Saffi in Der Zigeunerbaron, Hanna Glawari in Die Lustige Witwe, and Gertrude in Hänsel und Gretel at the Roodepoort Opera. She has performed in oratorio such as Beethoven’s Symphony No 9, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Nielsen’s Symphony No 5, Rossini’s Petite Messe di Solenelle, and others.
Since 1997 Antoinette has performed extensively with Salon Music in Pretoria and Windhoek in various programmes which include the Verdi and Mozart Opera Gala Concerts. She also appears on two of their CDs and most recently released CD "Soiree".
Antoinette performed the world premiere of Hendrik Hofmeyr’s Song Cycle for Soprano and Orchestra in 1999 and
is also a keen concert singer. She was invited by Mimi Coertse to perform at the Lieder concert series An die Musik and has often performed with The Black Tie Ensemble and is involved in their incubator development program for young singers.
She is a part time lecturer in singing at the University of Pretoria.
