EWAN TAYLOR, bass
Born in Duban, South Africa, Ewan studied opera at the University of Cape Town. He studied with dramatic soprano Marita Napier until he left for the United Kingdom in 1999, and with Elizabeth Connell in London until 2001. Throughout university Ewan sang in the chorus for many productions with Artscape, formerly known as CAPAB.
Since living in London Ewan has performed roles that include Sacristan (Tosca), Marullo (Rigoletto), Colline (La Boheme) and Guglielmo (Cosi Fan Tutte) in Europe, as well as chamber opera on tour to Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Oman, Cambodia and Bahrain. Other contracts have seen him performing Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro) for Beaufort Opera at the Hammersmith Lyric, Masetto (Don Giovanni), Olin Blitch (Susannah), Colline (La Boheme, cover) for Raymond Gubbay at the Albert Hall, Dr Grenvil (La Traviata) and Marquis Villequier (Le Roi Malgre Lui) for Grange Park Opera, Der Lautsprecher (Der Kaiser von Atlantis), Peter Quince (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Speaker (The Magic Flute) and Cadmus (Semele) for British Youth Opera at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Leporello (Don Giovanni) at the Zeist Opera Festival in Holland, Schmidt and Dumas (Andrea Chénier) for Chelsea Opera Group at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Pistola (Falstaff) on tour for New Sussex Opera, and Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro) in Ireland, Opera 2005. Ewan has sung in various concerts and oratorios around Europe as well as the Middle East and South East Asia.
Future engagements include Colline (La Boheme), Basilio (Barber of Seville) and Zuniga (Carmen) for Opera Brava touring the UK, as well as Marullo (Rigoletto) and again Zuniga (Carmen) on tour to South East Asia and Middle East for European Chamber Opera.
He lives in South-West London and studies with Raymond Conel, Lihnee Roberts (Guildhall) and Ludmilla Andrews.
