GUDRUN BARELLA, soprano
Gudrun Barella was born in Germany and studied singing in Munich with Lena Wagner. She emigrated to Australia where she was a member of the Australian National Opera Group. The she left for Cape Town in South Africa and continued her studies in singing at the University of Cape Town, where she was a part-time lecturer in singing for four years, followed by two years lecturing at Stellenbosch. In 1969 she joined the PACOFS (Performing Arts Council of the Orange Free State) Opera Group appearing in Carmen and La Boheme. Other operas she has sung include Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini), Suor Angelica (Puccini), Don Pasquale (Donizetti), Otello (Verdi), Don Giovanni (Mozart), and The Telephone (Menotti). She is now lecturer in singing at the Free State University.
