The following is extracted from the booklet of the CD "Rigoletto (abridged) - EOAN Group"  (Claremont CD GSE 1567)

LIONEL FOURIE came from a musical family in Ladismith, Cape Province.  He qualified as a teacher in Worcester and trained many school choirs.  He had an exceptional dramatic tenor voice but later sang the baritone roles when he joined the EOAN Group, for whom he sang Giorgio Germont and Rigoletto.  In addition, he sang bass in Mendelssohn's Elijah and Handel's Messiah.  He was acknowledged as being an excellent Afrikaans writer and contributed to the Afrikaans press.
